Project Overview
Situated on the edge of a mountainous landscape, this contemporary residence was designed as a retreat that connects its inhabitants to the surrounding natural beauty. The brief was to create a spacious, light-filled family home that balanced durability, comfort, and understated elegance — a house equally suited for everyday living and entertaining.
Design Approach
The architecture takes inspiration from vernacular gabled forms, reinterpreted with a refined contemporary language. The composition is defined by stone walls, black metal roofing, and timber accents, creating a palette that feels both robust and timeless. Large expanses of glazing frame views of the dramatic mountain backdrop, while generous terraces extend the living space outward.
Spatial Layout
The plan is arranged around a central open living area with soaring ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass, allowing natural light to flood the interior. The home features multiple wings that create a sense of privacy for bedrooms and guest suites while keeping communal spaces open and connected. A striking glazed entryway serves as both a welcoming threshold and a visual link to the landscape beyond.
Sustainability & Materials
Durable natural stone anchors the home to its site, while timber and metal detailing soften the architecture with warmth and tactility. High-performance glazing, energy-efficient roofing, and thoughtfully integrated insulation ensure the building performs sustainably in its mountain climate. Materials were selected for longevity, low maintenance, and their ability to weather beautifully over time.
Outcome
The finished home achieves a balance between contemporary sophistication and rustic grounding. With its expansive views, open yet intimate interiors, and seamless connection to the outdoors, it offers a retreat that is as resilient as it is welcoming — a modern interpretation of the mountain lodge.
This house has exceeded everything we imagined. The design captures the views perfectly — every room feels connected to the mountains and the landscape beyond. The central living space has become the heart of our home, filled with light and warmth, yet it still feels intimate when it’s just the two of us.
