Project Overview
This proposal explores the transformation of a detached family home through the addition of a contemporary side extension. The clients wanted to expand their living space with a design that would both complement the existing house and introduce a bold, modern identity.

Design Approach
The concept reinterprets the traditional gabled form with a striking tile-hung facade and roof, using a single material across wall and roof surfaces to create a cohesive, sculptural volume. Dark-framed glazing is carefully set within the tiled planes, creating a crisp contrast and allowing the new spaces to feel light, open, and connected to the garden.

Spatial Layout
The extension is designed to accommodate versatile living areas that flow seamlessly from the original house. Large openings maximise natural light and frame views of the landscaped garden, while the connection point between old and new is carefully resolved to celebrate the contrast in materials and styles.

Sustainability & Materials
By choosing natural clay tiles, the extension references the local vernacular while also ensuring durability and longevity. Modern construction methods and energy-efficient glazing will ensure that the addition not only enhances the home’s aesthetic but also its performance.

Outcome
Once complete, the project will create a bold yet sensitive addition to the property, respecting the traditional form of the original house while delivering a fresh, contemporary space tailored to modern family life.
