Project Overview

The Glass Pavilion is a refined single-storey glazed extension designed to seamlessly connect contemporary living spaces with the surrounding garden. Conceived as a tranquil retreat within a dense urban setting, the project enhances both the functionality and atmosphere of the home — introducing light, openness, and a strong sense of calm.

Design Approach

The design pursues a minimalist aesthetic rooted in precision and restraint. Slim black-framed glazing and a cantilevered roof plane create a striking visual lightness, while the warm timber-lined ceiling adds texture and warmth to balance the contemporary structure. Full-height sliding doors allow the interior to dissolve entirely into the landscaped terrace, blurring the boundary between indoor comfort and outdoor living.

Spatial Layout

Internally, the extension houses an elegant open-plan lounge and dining space, designed for relaxation and entertaining. The continuous flow of materials — from the timber soffit to the large-format stone paving — creates a sense of spatial continuity. Subtle integrated lighting within the ceiling and terrace enhances the ambience from day to night, extending the usability of the space throughout the year.

Sustainability & Materials

Performance glazing ensures optimal thermal comfort, while the lightweight steel structure maximises transparency without compromising stability. Durable natural finishes, including timber, stone, and glass, provide longevity and timeless appeal, complementing the existing architecture while introducing a distinctly modern character.

Outcome

The Glass Pavilion delivers a serene and versatile addition that redefines the relationship between home and garden. It embodies quiet sophistication — a contemporary sanctuary that feels effortlessly connected to its setting.

We wanted a space that would bring more light into our home and create a better connection with the garden — the result has completely transformed the way we live. The design feels effortless, elegant, and perfectly in tune with the outdoors. It’s become our favourite place to relax.
